The Fever Seems to have Broken

This morning I felt a cool breeze coming through the bedroom window. The fever had broken and Eugene was coming back to life. Rocky still had some pretty cool bed-head, but this time without the wet-look. Now that we are in the cool 90s again we thought that we could venture out to the park.

I've been watching Mac this week and he and Rocky are like two little peas in a bike-trailer pod.
We cooled off in the water features and ate some peanut butter and jam sandwiches.
Rocky worked on her tan while Mac turned back and forth between being a tiger and a robot.

They played themselves out and we arrived home with two sleeping beauties.

Hotsie Totsie

For those of you with any doubt that it has been insanely hot in student housing I submit Exhibit A.
My poor child looks like she has been out for a swim, but really she was taking a nap and is soaked in sweat. Brandon and I were just as sweaty, but its not near as cute on us.

Yesterday she tried to stay cool by stripping down to only the necessities. She later lost her veil, but kept the bling.

The news says that the heat-wave is almost over and it looks like we are going to make it.

Back to Business

People keep asking me what we've been doing since we got back from Utah.

This pretty much sums it up. We'll probably have to sleep the entire 4 weeks we are here just to make up for all the fun we have had this summer.

Nostalgia at its Best

There's nothing like a parade.

I have memories of going to parades with my grandparents and seeing how much they loved them. When they were no longer able, I went with my mom. Now I take Rocky so that she can remember like I do.
My memories are those nostalgic type that taste like old-time hard candy. By the time I was a kid that hard candy was already being marketed as old-school, but whenever I had it I felt like I was experiencing something from the past. I like the idea that back then the candy was simple and rare enough to be a real treat.
When I go to a parade there is the same kind of down-home excitement that goes back even longer than the hard candies. The uniforms and floats may look different, and the stereo systems now may blast techno music, but the idea of a community gathering on the street to support and entertain each other remains.
I love watching the marching bands, mascots and rodeo queens. I smile and wave when the mayor goes by and when the boy scouts carry the flag. I cheer for the caliope and the pooper-scoopers, and I always get excited when I see someone I know.
To me, a parade is one of those rare treats that link us to generations of the past. It makes me feel that there is a continuity in life. That times change, but some traditions will remain.
